Used dampers are the item most often bought on looks alone: worth checking for oil weeping down the shaft, pitting on the shaft itself, collars that have seized into the body, and perished top hats. Ask whether a coilover brand can still be rebuilt in Australia and by whom, because a rebuildable damper that needs a service is a different proposition to one nobody supports any more. Spring rates that suit a track car often make a street car unpleasant.
