Every sale here is a private sale between you and the other party. These habits cover almost everything that goes wrong in second-hand parts.
Inspect before you pay
- •See the part in person, or ask for a video showing it from every angle with today's date written on paper in shot.
- •For engines and drivetrain, ask for compression numbers and what the part came off. A seller who knows the part can answer in one message.
- •For wheels, check for cracks and welds behind the spokes and confirm the stamped size matches the listing's fitment.
Meet smart
- •Meet in daylight at a busy public place where you can inspect properly - a servo, a shopping centre carpark, a cars-and-coffee.
- •For heavy items collected from a home or workshop, bring a mate.
- •Trust the conversation: a legitimate seller talks details, a scammer pushes urgency and payment.
Paying
- •Cash on pickup or PayID at handover are the safest for private sales.
- •Never pay a deposit to 'hold' a part for a seller you have not met or verified.
- •Avoid gift cards, crypto, and international transfer requests outright - no genuine parts seller asks for them.
Warning signs
- •A price far below every comparable listing.
- •Refuses a video call or an in-person inspection but pushes for payment.
- •Asks to move the conversation off the site immediately, or the 'courier will handle it' story.
- •Stock photos: run the listing photos through a reverse image search if unsure.
